Don't apologize. This is all subjective. I'm really an amateur at all of this. I try to get better all of the time, but I can hardly stand to look at my work once I have posted it.
If I can be of any assistance to you, feel free to e-mail me with specific questions. Shoot me over a picture and I will send you back a layered retouched photo so that you can see what I did, or I can send you the Photoshop/ImageReady action.
In the end it really comes down to your own taste and sensitivity.
