Living here is safe.
the war that someone spoke about in the border towns along Arizona and Texas, has very little to do with Americans. You could still get killed in a drive by, but that can happen in NY!
We have a fence around the house that we live in, but if you want in, you can just climb the fence. Then you have to face my dogs, but we have had them for years.
Most of the nice communities here have a fence around them, and 24 hour security, and the crime is just like in the states. You are more likely to know someone here that has had a burglary to thier house, than in the states, but that is because people are in concentrated areas.
General Safety!! We have walked the streets in Tijuana many times ar 2 and 3 in the morning. Very rarely will something happen to you. You car is a different story, so having an alarm is a great idea. And Lock the thing.
