Anyway, of course it has to do with self esteem. If you don't believe yourself to be deserving you will settle for less, sometimes not even realizing it. Self esteem is almost always the core issue here - say you are afraid to be alone for example, you probably believe that you are not capable of handling the pressures of being alone - to include finances, lonliness whatever - you would not believe this to be true and as a result stay in an unhappy relationship if you didnt have low self esteem. The fear is definately a factor however self esteem is the core. Same holds true for an abusive father etc etc, different outer issues, came core issue.....
It also holds true for men and women alike. I know plenty of men that remain unhappy.....
