No, *Canada* was not a country in the 1600's. The United States was part of land that were known as the Americas long before we became a country. What's your point? Neither was a country.
Stop using the war of 1812 as something the Canadians did. The United Kingdom was a Super Power in those times. I will concede that it used troops from it's territory of Canada to stop an upstart country from taking possesion of more land.
Now as for the Quebecois... That's a mess I don't want to step in.
