Sadly, your friend gave them to you because it'd cost him more to dispose of them than to give them away.. in time and other resources..
I think Charles/WiredGuy has the right idea in that you can / should sell them in 100, 500, even 1000 bulk orders; even for like $100-$200 per 1000.. That's over $1000 in your pocket then if you can sell them all....
You could always use them to decorate your house, or use them for padding on the floor..
