I've been playing since highschool, and yeah, it can be addicting. Especially if you find some nice courses you love playing on.
For years I was a shade worse than Happy Gilmore. I could drive it like a motherfucker, prolly because I was holding the club wrong, and treated it like baseball. But everything about my short game sucked.
Prolly 5-7 years ago, I adjusted how I swing, and hold a club. Now I have incredible control, and decent short game, but lost the ability to hit the long ball. Every now and then (like this past Sunday) I get a hold of one with my 3 wood, and drive it 200 yards. But those are the exceptions. My game's gotten a lot better, but mainly because of the short game, and putting. I used to always be over 100, now I am normally in the 60 or 70's depending on the course.
I am not competitive, and mainly do it for the fun, and shooting the shit with the fellas while out on the green. But occasionally I do corporate scrambles, or events, so I have to be just good enough to not be a liabilty.
