That is a ridiculous argument.

You're paying mostly tax. Blame your choices in electing politicians.

The issue is that no matter where people are, we have personal budgets. We know that in a certain week we'll have certain expenses. Gas prices were an accepted part of day to day living. However, in order to pay for fuel we lose out on other components of life.

Let's say for instance that you drive 20,000 miles per year. Let's also go so far as to say that your car gets 15mpg. That is roughly 1333 gallons of fuel annually. The cost for that at $3.00 per gallon is about $4,000. At $1.50 a gallon to Americans that was still high. On a gallon by gallon basis it sucks that it costs twice as much to fill your car. Annually it is too double.

For the average American worker an extra $2000 a year is a large amount of money. Money people are already short on.

They say that the concept of saving is nearly gone. People are utilizing savings to make up for the difference. This trend will not normalize and could have deep effects throughout the economy.

Unless Salaries doubled along with the cost of everything else doubling the cost of gas is becoming a luxury for many.
