Bad argument.
You'd be right and justified if it had grown with inflation like it had in other places. Keep in mind though that not all consumables or real property grow in accordance to the same inflation rate as the economy on the whole. The national inflation rate is reflective of the economy, not directive, it uses aggregate data to get a summarized picture of the growth of the economy on the whole.
Gas didn't need to rise in accordance with other items because of technology. Demand and supply. American interest in foreign oil. Many factors.
So again, what people pay in other countries is irrelevant to the US.
