The cause is, the western companies making big bucks while paying ridiculously low wages for people working in diamondmines etc, I bet there's so much diamonds going to western pockets instead of the countrys treasury where they're dug from that they alone could take a few of the countries out of starvation.
I'm not an expert on africans, but I do know that if you live in a village and your daily routine is;
wake up - walk 20miles to get fresh water - eat porridge - hope you don't have aids - fuck - go to bed.
repeat for ~25 years, then die.
It's not much you can hope from life except pussy, and then you go ahead and fuck, make offspring and spread aids. Ain't it grand. I doubt college is on their to-do list. It takes a shitload more than a few voluntary workers and free food from western countries to put these shithole countries up to par with western standards. It ain't happening in our lifetimes.
I remember reading somewhere that 9 months after last years hurricanes in florida, a lot of babies were born. Why? Nothing else to do but fuck.
That being said, I'm goddamn happy I live in one of the richest and safest places on earth, but that doesn't mean I should look down on the less fortunate.
You'd most likely be dead by your age if you were born in africa.
