check them out they have cheap but high quality cameras and all kinds of fun automation stuff. For like $200 you can get 2 cameras, a hookup for your vcr to record, and a bunch of other cool shit. My husband ahs just finished a program that does this with up to 4 cameras. He has written it for a specific company's equipment here in the UK though, and while I can recommend it as an ASSKICKING program for monitoring your home (mini-spam, sorry), I have no idea how it would integrate with US camera systems.
I have learned (from his few years working in security systems) that it is hugely cheaper to buy the bits and install them yourself than to get ADT or someone like them out to fit it for you. Their monitoring system is attractive I know but then how do you know how reliable it would be unless you actually have a break-in? Big thing is to get an outside alarm box and make sure it is fuck-off LOUD. Make sure they are around when you put it up and test it. That way they know you aren't fucking around.
