Years ago a buddy and I were northbound on I-75 in a tractor-trailer haulin' 70,000 lbs of metal shavings. We're cruisin' along at highway speed, about 55mph - when a chick five vehicles ahead of us suddenly SLAMS on her brakes and comes to a complete stop in the middle of the interstate.
Why?!?!
Cuz she'd seen a stop sign at the end of a on-ramp that was bent and appeared to be facing the highway itself rather than the end of the on-ramp...and thought it meant for HER to stop!!
Major kudos to my buddy who somehow managed to get the truck on to the shoulder of the highway, tires smokin'...without jackknifing the rig. By the time the truck was stopped, we were at least two car-lengths past the chick's car.
She calmly takes off like nothing happened, continuing on her merry way...oblivious to the potential catastrophe she'd nearly caused behind her.
