same thing,
if you have a program that only allows .asf files and you have .wmv's, just replace .wmv to .asf
the newer virtualdub versions won't do either though, sucks
I use Sony Vegas Video if I want to edit a wmv (not free though), or if you just want to cut one into smaller pieces I use
