The differences between "Adult" and "Mainstream" Web Development

What the fuck is wrong with me?!? Am I continually barking up the wrong tree?!?

Yeah, yeah, I know the economy is going to absolute pot. That could be one of the reasons. Maybe you can help me figure out this question...

Why do I go out of my way to "hide" the experience I have learned in the adult web industry in order to make myself more presentable to potential "legit" businesses?!?

I've got lots of neat adult and non-adult projects under my belt, and a pretty good grasp of sales and guerilla marketing - yet every mainstream contract or work experience I have been involved with has been about as exciting as a hangnail - and about as lucrative as a rural West Virginia computer show.

In my last legit work experience, I built this site - LEO AWARDS. Obviously it gets its influence from some of my adult sites - yet this is absolutely the proudest I have ever been about a site.

Since working for this company - who of course fucked me with my contract as it was about to expire - I have returned to the adult industry and have decided to look for full time work (along with every other peanut grabber). I prefer the no BS atmosphere of adult work.

I guess the simple answer is STOP LOOKING FOR MAINSTREAM WEB DEVELOPMENT WORK. However, I feel that the lessons learned in the adult industry could apply to so many other facets of advertising and marketing that I continue to shoot myself in the foot.

Do other people deal with the dilemma of balancing "legit" and "adult" projects? I'd be interested to know.

Advice? Thoughts? Insults?
