Don't get me wrong. The Venetian is a swank hotel. Something is just not right about it though. It's like an Epcot mock-up of Venice. It lacks authenticity. I can't get rid of that nagging feeling that I am looking at a fake Venice. You know, the shopping area inside, the canals, and the molding in the rooms.
I lived in Orlando for ten years. This may explain my aversion to Disneyfication of Vegas. The Luxor, for example, is bad-ass looking from outside. It's completely surreal flying into Vegas at night and seeing a beam of light launch skyward from an desert pyramid. Like the Venetian, once inside there, I can't get rid of the feeling that I am in Epcot Egypt.
All that being said, I love Vegas. It a great place to get completely fucked up and forget where I am. You can stay awake for three consecutive days just living off that casino air and never have to see the light of the day.
I'm going to keep trying hotels. I haven't found mine yet. I did like the old-school Tropicana suites with the hot-tubs in them.
