(as much as uncivilised we are, we do not kill people for their crimes) although that insult law is in effect, it is not really 'in effect'. Since you know much about Turkey, I'm sure you also know that all the charges against O.Pamuk were dropped. The trial never happened.
Hitler's Mein Kampf being one of the best sellers doesn't necessarily have to mean anything. I'm sure you can figure out easily that Turkey has had better relations with Israel than all of her neighbours. As for the movie igniting unnecessary hate towards Americans; the answer is right there; it is a movie,a movie which i'm planning to see in a couple of days with an American friend of mine who has been living here for some time now. And even if the movie is igniting hatred towards Americans, well you know, it's just cause and effect. Nothing happens by itself. If you think that you can just go and bomb a country ,which in reality poses no threat for you, saying that it's developing some chemical weapons (which later turned out that there were none, and your government knew it in the first place), and kill innocent people in the process, i guess you can't expect them to love you. I suggest you check this site out Mr 'I live in a civilised country'

These people were killed for no reason, no chemical weapons, no threat nothing. If this is part of being civilised, thanks, i don't want it.
ps. Before calling this part of the world uncivilised i suggest you learn history better.

You mean your bloody history? Your country is build on other people's blood, Armenians, Greeks, Bulgarians, Kurds ect..Lets not forget the 1.5 million Armenains who your ancestors ruthlessly butchered, and this way then annexed the Eastern Anatolia to the modern day country, a land which these people lived for over 3000 years.
Pamuk was never convicted because, first of all he is very famous in Europe and second, EU put too much pressure on Turkey. If EU did not intervene your "civlilized" politcians, especially the extreeme Turkish elite, who rule your country would love to see him rot in prison. But for the other less famous writes, it was not the case, like for Hrant Dink who faces prison:

Is this how a "civilized" country deals with demonstrations, by killing the demonstrators:

Human rights defenders get death-threats:

So, after all I am not the ignorant one, but you. You know nothing about your country's bloody history, I guess your school's do a very good job at brainwashing people, like they did for the past 83 years since the creation your "country".
