Can't comment on the rest of the problems, but this occurs naturally as the body ages - the muscles in the eyes harden and make it harder to focus the lens on near objects...

I've been keeping an eye (no pun intended!) on this subject for about 10 years, and I'm still not convinced yet - some doctors claim that much better than 20/20 vision will be easily achievable shor t l y (Damn Lensman and his R T L adversion! ). Do I have my eyes done now, or wait a few years to get cat-like vision? When cat-vision is available, what will be available in a few years time?

Damnit! Why can't I have everything now?
