The down part to this is often times SE's will recognize subdomains as seperate sites. So a SE may not recognize all your pages as part of one large site.

Thanks WG...that actually has helped me make my decision to go with the subdomain as 90% of the site was going to be either put in the directory or on the subdomain. the main domain is not much of anything....hard to explain...
