Though it is work, it's not that difficult- I've done it for years w/o a single complaint.
One just has to make sure the posting is on topic to the news group, is in an allowed format (ie. no pic attachments unless it's a *.binaries.* group), isn't cross-posted and replies are followed up. Niche sites can do quite well by a not-too-aggressive newsgroup presence and their contributions can be very well received, especially if the poster interacts outside of their solicitations as well.
