Near as I can remember it would be because all simultaneous universes are coexisting on the same time axis, and there are infinite amount of universes all coexisting. Even the slightest shift in anything results in a new universe running parallel to ours. This means that there are infinite probabilties for the structure of a universe and so you would be changing a new one when you went back in time, because it would branch out to new possible universes.
Quite simple really. But I can't believe that time "travel" will ever be possible anytime soon because it would require transcending dimesions to a multi-axis linear state while still remaining structurally stable through a lower multi-axis state.
But I'd go back and see my own birth.
It would be so weird...
