Did so quite a few times in the past, but I'm in the game dev industry and it's extremely uncommon for someone to be at the same place for more than three years. There's a LOT of moving around in this business, and every step is usually accompanied by a great up in salary. Depends on the employee. If they are part of the direct cause of bad times, then bye bye. If they're just a victim, then they deserve a chance to stay, unless there's just no way to keep them monetarily. It's hard to find awesome employees. You should do everything possible to keep them once you've got them. But... see my first answer above.

Yep. And yep. I do this for the money, and the enjoyment of making that money. I want to retire someday so I can hang out with my wife. Money is the only way that's going to happen, so that's what I'm after. 10%, 50%, sure.
