There is a dead sea scroll, found in the 50's which backs this perspective. Judas was the lone member of an ultra disciplined gnostic group. People that had essentially been preparing the way for the christ. Judas was at heart a a soldier and it has been said he was no more capable of treachery than the best marine. If you learn anything about judas this becomes the only sensible explanation. The church may want to appear infallible, but man has long manipulated doctrine and the truth to suit other purposes.
