I've decided to lease some domains to people looking to start their own site, or people who have time to manage extra sites, but want one that has a little bit of help behind it.
Here's how the lease model will work for us.
1. You host the site on your own server, I update the DNS as needed, as I keep the domain in my registration.
2. You are in full control of what goes on the site, the ads, the content - everything.
3. Any profits you earn from the site are yours to keep. No seriously. They're yours. I don't even want to know what you make.
4. You will be required to keep a link or banner in either a header tab or footer tab - it won't be excessive or intrusive in the least. It won't be a popunder, layover, nothing like that. A simple link in the menu, or a banner in the footer...just some options.
5. We may trade traffic, provided that the content is similar and it works out. If it doesn't prove to be productive for us, that's no big deal. We're not going to do it if one of us isn't benefiting. If you tell me three weeks from now that my traffic to you took a dive, then that's not a problem at all. Operations continue as normal. The traffic trade is just to give each other a boost, but it's not required. You can decline if you want.
6. I'll help you with:
- sponsor suggestions.
- ad placement.
- trade tips and suggestions.
- layout/script suggestions. I may have an extra layout or script laying around. If I do, someone is certainly free to use it. Depends on what's in my folder of unused items
7. We keep it cool and try to make more money together. You and I may not even talk for months after this is set up, and if you're doing good, then great. I'm doing this because I refuse to sell my domains but I'd like to see them put to use. I also notice lots of people trying to break into an industry and want a little bit of help, so maybe this is a good way for them to test it out.
8. If you ever get my domain blacklisted for spam or do anything bad with malware or anything that the webmaster community looks down upon, then you will be required, by contract, to pay me $5k, and you will sign off on this prior to me leasing you a domain and helping you. I will not do this with you if your plan is to be a fuck up on purpose. Run a site to the ground because you stop caring? Sure, I can live with that. But blatantly install malware or spam so you get blacklisted? No thanks. Keep it clean and do things right.
