Gnarly Head makes great wine
http://www.wine.com/V6/Gnarly-Head-O...46/detail.aspx
I would never pay $300 for a bottle of wine, you can usually get this for less than $20

I would go with Chateau Cheval Blanc 2004

http://www.wine.com/V6/Chateau-Cheva...17/detail.aspx

If you're willing to impress someone, especially if that someone knows wines, this one is a good choice

300$ for a bottle of wine? are you insane, lol? You can get a nice 6-case for that price...

I would recommend Pouilly Fume or a higher end Chablis for white, and a Margaux for red. Can't do wrong with those!

Really no reason to buy wine for that much you can get very good win for 20-30 bucks a bottle and some amazing wine around 80-100 bucks after that differences are so small most people would never notice or care. Unless you are celebrating and just want to blow some money

A bottle of Mogen David MD 20/20 is always a no-brainer.

Once you find a few wines that interest you use http://www.wine-searcher.com/ to find it either locally or online.

Most $300 red wines out there are more than likely meant to sit in a cellar for 15+ years before being drank. You'd probably be better off buying a bottle of pinot noir over the Bordeaux mentioned above as it will be a heck of a lot less tannic. I'd recommend something like the Marcassin Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir or for less money something from Beaux Freres in Oregon. For the Marcassin, if you can find it, the 2002 vintage was the best of late but the 03, 04 & 05 are all tops too.

I've never spent over 40 bucks on a bottle of wine.

I don't like red wine much, I prefer whites. Moscato D'Asti varieties are probably my favorite.

It's from Reims, blue label, sometimes comes in a blue metal case. Very nice!

Its a present for someone, I need to be able to go pick it up at a store right now. So no wine.com must be shipped

Like I said, I don't know anything about wine, so if $300 is too much then fine...

What can I get at BevMo that is high quality?

BevMo has a reserve case, anything in there is fine. If someone was buying me a BevMo pressie I'd ask for a Stag's Leap Fay or a Rubicon or an Opus One. There might even be a Ridge Monte Bello in there...

For a US wine I would say try the Lewis, Napa, Cabernet Sauvignon 2002. Pick a bottle up for around $150 and a very solid good wine

Chilean and Argentinian red wine especially Syrah is amazing, try Trapiche, or Echeverria...about $20 to $30 per bottle

It doesnt matter where a wine comes from or how much a bottle of wine costs.

The best wine is the wine that tastes the best TO YOU. Really its that simple.

That being said, my favorite is Trilogy by Flora Springs in Napa Valley. I've been to their vineyard twice and the tour there is great, check it out if you are ever in the area.

https://www.florasprings.com/store/i...product_id=341

At $65 per bottle its just a tad expensive, but its not meant for every day drinking.

Go to the store. Just about any Merlot or Cabernet or old vine Zinfandel from Napa area is going to rock. I started to think you meant restaurant prices, but even the good stuff in a restaurant shouldn't cost more than $60.
