it stands to reason that this helps push the DHS agenda to move body scanners into more places than just airports, as well as helping legislation to remove guns from the hands of the commoners.

you are certainly entitled to your theory, which is what this is. but i've found that the simpler reason is usually the right one. suicide by cop can and does happen, giving credit to the government for every whacked out event that happens tends to defy the realities of day to day life.
