:mad Fucking PS3 just died

Playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit online, and the screen went black in the middle of a race. The red light on the front of the console started blinking.

I shut it off, and turned it back on. The green light came on, the PS3 beeped, and the red light started blinking again. I'm guessing the hard drive went south. No YLOD. Just green, beep beep, flashing red.

Son of a bitch. Any suggestions? Not shipping it back to Sony, I'll just grab a new model when I get the time. Hard drive failure?

Could be the HDD. Might have overheated. See what happens in half an hour.

How old is it? Mine is still going strong, one of the original cack ones with 40GB HDD. You have to make sure there's lots of air circulation around them, they have serious overheating problems.

Its the 40GB, just over two years old. I keep it clean, lotsa fresh air. It looks like its trying to boot, but can't read anything.

Even though this is an autogenerated, spammy-as-hell article, it seems to suggest its either a misplaced connection, or a dead HD:

http www articlesbase.com/electronics-articles/dealing-with-a-ps3-blinking-red-light-1678489.html

I'll take it apart tomorrow.

What a pisser. Hard drives are cheap though. You'll lose all your save games though I guess.

They're just notebook sata hdd's I believe. You can get a 640Gb for $80: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136459

Keep the receipt in case it isn't that!

HAve a 60GB that I bought when it first came out. Still going strong. I take it outside every once and awhile and use canned air to blow it out and get all the dust bunnies out. (Anytime I hear the fan running more than usual)

Running and cooling right, the high speed fan should only kick in during really hardcore parts of a game. Other than that you should hardly even hear it. It should also go back to the "silent" fan upon exiting the game within a minute or so if not faster... If not, clean it.

My son just confessed (this Tuesday night) that he was playing Joe Danger and teasing the dogs at the same time. They (the dogs) ended up knocking my PS3 onto the floor and he picked it up, and he put it back in it rightful place of authority. Without telling me what happened.

In lieu Christmas presents for my twenty-year old son, I will be purchasing a new PS3 Slim. I hope he enjoys his card.

I turn it on and it rattles like a baby. I could replace the HD or send it in for repairs (its a 40GB - pretty much useless...), but I'm just going to grab a slim.

Think I'll give my my son the busted PS3 as a Christmas gift. He turns twenty Dec. 20th. Time to man up - should have told me what happened weeks ago.

All my saved games are gone! Son of a bitch!

I wouldn't know. My kid crapped out my PS3.

Actually, Joe Danger's a pretty cool game. I was more interested in my lvl 50 Red Dead dude and my NFS Hot Pursuit career. Kids today. Aaaarrrgggghhh...........

My Playstastion Plus account. Oh! Geez! Just shut up - it hurts. I lost all my saved games.
