By a vote of 65 to 31 this afternoon, the Senate voted to repeal the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

Now, if they can get their shit together and pass the Zadroga Bill this lame duck session won't seem so lame.

They didn't have DADT when I was in, if they thought you were gay, they shipped you out. My daughter just got out of the Navy and she believes that it's going to have lots of problems. I'm for lifting the ban on gays serving, but I know there will be problems.

There was a draft in my lifetime too, but we have better technology and turn people away from enlisting. Even when I got my 4f, or whatever they called it back then, I was told that unless there was WWIII there was no chance of me being called.
