I just bought Civilization V - and realized I need a new PC to play it..

There's only 1 game I've played in the past 10 years: Civilization.

I went from Colonization, to CIV I, II, III, IV and now V (without mentioning the expansion packs in between).

Anyway, I just bought Civilization V, and after installing it I realized I'll need a new PC to play it.

WTF? I have a fairly new PC (Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.00Ghz, 2Gb of RAM, etc).

Isn't it a bit too much, for a strategy game, without much graphics, to run only on newer processors, a ton of RAM, and massive video cards?

I'm returning the game to the store, and simply won't play it. I'm not in the mood to get a new PC just to play a fucking game. It's a huge waste of time anyway.

Fuck, I'm angry now.

Those specs aren't very high you got going on. I5's and I7's have come out since those processors I believe.

Also 2gb of ram hasn't been installed in even the entry level computers for a 2-3 years now. It's been 3 I believe.

If you want to buy brand new games, you have to have a computer that's been made in the past few years.

I just bought an entry level computer here in Vancouver, B.C and it was an I7 processor, 4gb ram (i still need to upgrade), Geforce GT320. That computer was the cheapest decent computer they had at the store and that's miles ahead of yours.

I actually bought a computer with an E6600 4 1/2 years ago. So that shows how out of date yours is

Computers aren't that expensive. Use it as an excuse to get a new one?

That does suck you can't play your game though I just bought a new computer (mentioned above) and I still can't play a few games! (Just Cause 2 seems to lag a bit)

Your fairly new PC is out of date.

I've played them all as well, and I like most of the changes in Civ 5.

I hate that. I prefer PC gaming but it seems like with each new game you need a vid card upgrade.

Civ 5 sucks ass. It's a giant step backwards in the series. It's basically like they dumbed it down as much as they could. I've been a huge fan of the series and played the hell out of Civ IV and I am very dissapointed in Civ V.

QFT

I bought it the week it came out. Had managed work so that I could waste some serious time on it for a week or two - I spent maybe a total of 12 hours with it. Havnt played it since.

TOtally Dumbed Down

Sucks that the one game that I might play in a year or two is totally fucked up

What parts exactly was so wrong in game?Maybe non-ability to have more units on same field?Only thing which i didnt like is absence of Leonard Nimoy.

I suppose the lowest level of Civilization would be camping in a forest with fires made from logs of wood. The benefit of this lifestyle is that it's free. Houses are expensive to pay for. A lighter only costs a dollar, it seems.

The Civ 5 graphics are fucking unbelievable. You need a very good video card to keep up.

Also, your PC specs are pretty outdated.
2GB RAM is so 1999

anyway, Civilization 5 is a VERY hi-end game (in terms of horsepower required to run it. especially big maps)

I didn't really care for it at first but it quickly grew on me. I miss some of the units from 4, but I really like the overall play of 5. It is kind of slow for me, I wish they made a more basic graphics version (I usually play the overhead tile map now.) That's really my only complaint.

I thought the same.

an old ass "Rome: Total War" totally kicks it's ass play-style and even graphics wise.

can't wait for the new Shogun 2: Total War to come out.

You can't expect to play a DX11 game without at least a decent GPU...

Other than that, contrary to what people believe, that PC is enough to play nearly any game on 'medium settings' as long as it's not at high resolution (and you aren't multitasking while playing a game).

There is currently no PC game written for 64bit operating systems. Most are compatible with a 64bit OS but they still run in a 32bit layer. SO, under the limits of a 32bit operating system, it can't even use 3gb of ram nor does it even come close to using the computing power of a quad core processor.

At most resolutions it's the GPU that does the dirty work. Of course, if you're running a powerful GPU in SLI and trying to run a super high resolution on 1, 2 or even 3 monitors that's when other components in your PC would become bottlenecked.

You might want to wait a few years before getting deep into Civ 5... lotsa issues left for Firaxis to work out. You'll have a new computer by the time it is fully baked.

I missed Civ 3 completely (after being a drooling Civ 2 and SMAC fan)-- and did not get into Civ 4 until it was four years old. What an excellent experience. BTS might be my favorite game of all time, but it took the devs a few years to get there.

I expect the same with Civ 5, and I'm okay with that. A game of such scale needs time to mature.
