Thinking of becoming an iFag this year. You Apple groupies best be right!

This year I have decided I am quite possibly going to buy my first Apple and lose my cherry.

Why? Because I'm getting slightly pissed at how quickly my new PC and Laptop hardware becomes fucked because of some shitty little piece of malware that no software seems to be able to get rid of.

I just hope you guys that bang on about paying over the odds for hardware that isn't top spec but runs better for longer are right.

Probably going to get myself one of the 27" core i3 one's

Any thoughts/comments?

I don't get it with the Mac switchers.

With the money you're spending the choice is between getting a monster PC and becoming a little girl. And they choose to become a little girl.

Some new i7 processors just came out like 2600K or something that look pretty decent. Why not spring for one of those and have a monster computer?

Go for 27" imac i5 or i7.
I've been told to get a 1GB graphics card to rather then trying to upgrade later. From what I understand memory is easy to upgrade but graphics card is hard to do.

I thought about how much I liked the speed of the new Macbook Air... I thought "whoa, this is kinda speedy..." Then I was thinking "Hmm, might be kinda nice to have one of these..." Then I slapped myself upside the head and snapped back to sanity.

The only reason those things are speedy is because they're running on SSDs.

Drink the KoolAid :D

I'd go for the 27" i7 myself (it's the one on my list actually).

Upgrades aren't too difficult if you're already familiar with hardware, and the inside of an iMac is a thing of beauty.

iMac 27"'s are fantastic. I have 2 of them and love them both. Fast, sleek, quiet, and does everything except crash. Definitely worth the money.

Agreed. You'll want to kill yourself after 24 hours with an i3. Plunk down an extra $150 and get an i7, and experience productivity.

Me and Xenigo both run i7's and we are happy as Cake.

He told me I had to get one and he was right.

It was worth every $170 extra

If it's that fucked format the drive and install...
http://www.sandboxie.com/

I believe google chrome also has one built in but I have no idea how good it is...

You could also just try another OS such as linux, hell you could even run OSX on that PC.

Get an extra drive and make backups automatically with something like acronis. If anything goes wrong (no matter what it is) acronis takes less than 20 minutes to restore your backup.

Going Mac vs. PC will not stop you from getting a virus, malware, etc.. It just means you'll be attacked less. If you download pirated music, movies, games, software, etc or other random crap all the time from the Internet - your Mac, WILL get a virus too - just like Windows would.

If you want to buy a bad ass machine, then buy a bad ass machine... The OS (Mac, Windows, Linux) is a user thing, and has little to do with performance of the machine.

If you're TRULY worried about mukware, then go with Ubuntu.... stick it on an $800ish crap machine, make it look exactly like a Mac, go get the software that works just like various Mac software, and feel safe knowing your chances of getting a damaging virus, is basically zero and you saved yourself $2,000.

I didn't put it straight. What I mean is adding new ram etc. ends up becoming not worth doing because something gets on your pc/laptop and slows it down. Like viruses/malware whatever.

Go ahead and buy something that runs longer. CPU speeds are changing so quickly, why would you want to keep a computer for more than year? Anyway Macs don't get a lot of malware because hackers pursue the bigger user base to experience their annoyances. That user base size is also going to make you feel like you're in a small world. I can't count the number of times I've heard some Apple person ask "when is that coming out for Mac?"

I'd say stick with the devil you know -- and you can get rid of any malware if you search for the answer in Google hard enough.

I've been thinking about too.

Then I look at the list of programs I *need* in my daily work and I realize I would need several weeks of work to go back to the same level of optimization/templates/proficiency etc, on a mac.

So I sadly give up, each time.

yeah, that's my deal too.... it's strictly work so I need to work and not mess around with software stuff. personally I like the look of mac's and use 2, 30 inch cinema monitors. other than that I'm fine with PC...

If you care about the look of a computer, then you are definitely a born Mac user.

I, on the other hand, have my motherboard mounted upside down under my desk(directly into the wood) with a fan blowing on it.

Recently brought my Macbook Pro in for servicing and they seemed to actually LOOK for things to replace on warranty. They gave me a new screen, battery, graphics card, etc etc. I was worried that they would void the warranty because my laptop had obviously been dropped at one point. Very happy here

Mac's are Unix anyway, why don't you build a Linux machine? I had so many problems with my first Macbook, the geniuses had to give me a brand new one. I messed with it for a while then I gave it to my 7 year old son who tears up nickjr.com with it. When he gets old enough to understand computers I'll get him a PC for the real world.
