more fun than the 911 which got a little fat over the years. decent trunk size in front and back. i didn't like that i had no space for my left leg to stretch out (automatic version). the sound rocks

Yeah seems a bit more practical on trunk space than a 911. Mid engined too.

My opinion, they are the poor mans Carrera.

Maybe that's wrong, but I thought they were a step up from the boxster.

I owned a Cayman S for 3 years and loved it. I was initially going to get the base model 911 Carrera but preferred the Cayman S and saved $15k.

yes, you're wrong

i bought my Porsche 968 because of it's big trunk since at that time i played in a band and needed to carry around 2 keyboards, sampler case etc.

and in the Cayman you have no backseats to put stuff unlike the 911

i own a Carrera C4S, and i LOVE the Cayman S. any real enthusiast that is concerned with handling and tearing up deserted mountain roads will admit the Cayman is a better car than the Carrera. If you are more concerned about showing off, by all means get the 911 lol. the Cayman is ranked one of the best handling, most balanced sports cars in the world.

I don't consider a 911 a "show off" car at all. The look is dated, they are everywhere, etc. You can get a lot more "shock and awe" than a Porsche for $100K.

The Cayman was introduced solely for the purpose of giving a better price point so people who can't afford a 911 can have a "Porsche badge". Therefore I'd argue that the Cayman is actually more of a "look at me, I drive a porsche" than the 911 (i.e., the car of choice for thirtythousandaires). The 911 gives driving purists a better feel for the road due to the weight distribution and other tweaks. The Cayman is basically a coupe boxster (total chick car).

What a load of shit! Cayman is a great car and more affordable, doesn't mean everyone has one. I'd buy one over the more expensive 911 anyday of the week.

2008 E63 AMG actually

I've driven a 997 Turbo, and almost pulled the trigger before buying the AMG. The 997 was used and the dealer wouldn't come down on price, so I passed.

If people prefer the Cayman over a 997/911, more power to them. I'm curious to see resale value and depreciation between the cayman and 911.

My next car, without a doubt, will be a 911 Turbo S.

One other thing. Just check out who drives a Cayman in your city. 90% of the people who drive Caymans in Seattle seem to be chicks. Google "porsche cayman girl car" and bask in the glory of all the people debating how it is a chick car. Google "porsche 911 girl car" and see hot models posing next to the dude's 911 lol.

But hey, if you wanna roll like that, more power to you!

Seriously? I honestly don't mind the shape of the 968, always loved 928's - great looking rear end and a V8 to boot!

A mate fits 2 sets of golf clubs in the back seat of his 997 and this was a selling point for him

I find most people who toss the "girl car" thing around drive lame cars themselves, or don't really know much about cars in general.

yeah, seriously ;)

i wanted a fast sportscar where all my stuff fitted in. and i didn't want a car that you can see on every second corner. The 968 is perfect for me and in November it will be 10 years that i own it - which will make it 18 years old in total.

That's why I asked if anyone owned one. I have never been influenced by how a car is perceived by those that have never owned one. I buy it for myself and not for how other folk will judge me
