IE9 and Tracking Protection: Microsoft disrupts the online ad business?

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/ie9-a...-business/3004

Quote:
If Internet Explorer 9 becomes widely adopted and if Tracking Protection is widely used?and those are two tricky assumptions?it has the potential to seriously disrupt the online advertising business. Microsoft made this feature widely available last week in the Release Candidate build of IE9 (if you missed it, here?s my review of the IE9 RC). Using the RC, it takes exactly two clicks to download a Tracking Protection List (TPL) and begin blocking third-party cookies, tracking pixels, web beacons, hit counters, analytics scripts, and other tools of the modern web designed to assemble a profile of your movements and activities on the web.

Oh, and it blocks ads, too.
conclusion: it requires user interaction, so it won't be a big problem.

Maybe 30% of IE9 users might figure out how to enable the anti-tracking.

How many now use the incognito (private) browsing now?

Perhaps, the numbers will be similar, also the affect ...

The only ads that this thing has blocked are those ads that pop up when you go over a an underlined word in on a page. And I have 5 tracking lists downloaded. Regular ads on a webpage aren't blocked that I have noticed.

IE has so few things to boast about that they probably believe this will win over the masses. They are quite proud of their ability to make the web LESS interactive.

Most, if not all, ad systems also use IP tracking, so the user can always be tracked, unless maybe he is on a dynamic IP and makes the purchase a few days later. But all instant purchases can still be tracked fine, which includes 99% of the porn memberships.
