Kids have had a free ride long enough!!

Yes, that is what Senator Jane Cunningham thinks

http://www.addictinginfo.org/?p=1676

Quote:
According to the bill’s official summary, children under the age of 14 would no longer be barred from employment. They’d also be able to work all hours of the day, no longer need a work permit from their school and be able to work at motels and resorts so long as they’re given a place to lay their weary heads each night. Moreover, businesses that employ children would no longer be subject to inspections from the Division of Labor Standards.
what a skank ho

I was just talking to my dad about something related last night.

I think the 55+ group have had a free ride long enough. Unrealistic pensions, unrealistic salaries, unrealistic benefits, shattered infrastructure, lag in technology, a nation of obesity, poor school quality... and who will get to pay for it all? My generation and my kids. Thank you all!

I rented some children to help put a pool in my back yard. Took longer than normal but got it done for a fraction of what adults would have charged.

I worked for my father when I was a kid. Horrible job really. Father owned a motor repair business, huge shop, no AC, lots of hot tools. We had to "bake" motors and we had an oven big enough to fit a small car.

ya know, I would probably say that you're better for it but I don't really know that for certain. I have no problems with kids helping out in a family business or that kind of thing... But to put them to work on their own is just too much for a kid to handle imo.

I mean that law would allow them to work in hotels and resorts, in my opinion that is just too dangerous of a situation to put a child in unsupervised and if they are supervised the entire time then what would be the point in hiring them.

This law is so crazy it seems like a joke, but it isn't, this woman seriously wants those changes made to her states child labor laws. It really says volumes about where her brain is at

I dont think this is a bad thing. I worked on a farm growing up as a kid. Dirty job but I always had money in my pocket. My son who is 15 now was trying to get a job last summer and is already looking for this summer because he wants money. Unfortunately, most places require him to be 16 to work there. I would rather have my 14 or 15 year old working and seeing the rewards then being bored and getting into trouble with his friends.

I dont agree with parts of the bill, working all hours etc.. but, the sense of entitlement kids have this days is funny and sad at the same time.

My son was with some friends this last fall and they were all talking about which first car they were going to buy, bmw, audi, lexus etc. I said who's going to pay for that? All my other friends parents are buying them nice cars when they turn 16 (which i know is bullshit)

I told him i would do the same thing my dad with me. I will match whatever money you put up. better start working kiddo...

the bill is aimed specifically for kids under the age of 14... we are talking YOUNG CHILDREN here, not teens keeping out of trouble

what is being proposed is far different. did your father take you out of school to do it? were you under 14? I had a part time job from 15-18 and it was great but school came first.

Just because the law is passed does not mean every 11, 12, 13 year old is going to work. It also doesnt mean that companies HAVE to hire them if they apply. Although you can work here in MN when you are 14 I know of no business anywhere around here that hires.(excluding paperboy) If a kid has the drive and wants to make a buck or 2, and their parents are ok with it, let them work.

Doesn't really matter what did or didn't cause it. It happened. They reaped the benefits. Somebody has to pay the price now. It's not them.

child labour is huge in other countries and was huge in the US as well until laws were passed many decades ago. you'd be surprised at the amount of parents who would put their young kids to work and the kind of shit jobs that would hire them.

at least someone would be working! Look at the unemployment rate, and why hire an adult when you can hire a kid for less money. Might as well let kids work. unions and collective bargaining are being destroyed in this country

flip side: why double the available work force and increase competition for a dwindling job market

I agree that collective bargaining is shit in this country now and it serves a very good purpose... but because they negotiate for a living wage and benefits they are viewed as anti-business

You might as well apply your great logic to illegal aliens too.

I mean, at least someone will be working, and why hire a legal worker when you can hire an illegal alien for less money too!
