American Concert Tours Question...

When an artist goes on tour, do they just get a flat amount for the tour?

For example, they commit to a 30 city tour and get 10 million paid upfront or at the end? Or do they simply commit to the tour, and get a percentage of the nightky gross receipts for each venue?

Just curious.

Depends on what kind of contract they negotiated I'm sure...

I would imagine it would depend on how each artist structured their deal---so there must be a dozen scenarios.

Ah, true true.

I went to see George Strait, Reba, Womack this weekend. It was like an $89 seat. So was just curious how the math breaks out on that kind of thing was all.

A lot of variables involved...

Is the band throwing the tour themselves, is a promoter throwing the tour and hiring the band as a lead or supporting act? Is the band doing the whole tour, or are they a pickup for certain locations, or markets.

If it's an in-house tour (ie album promotion, farewell tour, etc.) the bands will typically get a cut from ticket sales after numbers are said and done. If they are hired by a promoter they will typically get a set fee per date. If they are hired in as local market support they are lucky to get a dime a good amount of the time.

They should tour for free to promote their pirated music.
