The rumor that Gadhafi might have been shot pushed crude lower and helped stocks move up. There was no confirmation of the rumor. In fact, it wasn't clear where it originated. Asked if Washington had reason to believe that Gadhafi, who is seeking to crush protests against his 41-year rule in the oil-exporting North African nation, was dead, a U.S. government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters: "No."

These rumors don't make sense. It would not help economic conditions if he was shot. I thought it might make panics worse.

the markets are very rumor driven.. and it does make sense.
end of Gadafi means an end in sight of the unrest.
if you didnt know, the oil prices has risen as of late due to the situation in Libya.
