Who is going to San Francisco to the ICANN Meeting?

I hear some of the heavy guns of the industry will be there. Come and stand shoulder to shoulder in unity with me and the powerhouses of our industry. Demonstrate your credibility in this industry by standing up for your businesses, your rights and your freedom to choose. March 17th, 12:30pm, Union Square in front of Westin Hotel.

We will not go freely or willingly into the .XXX ghetto. No, we will stand and fight to the bitter end. People are standing up for their rights all across the Middle East, fighting and dying for their freedoms. You need to show ICANN and the World that you too will stand up for your 1st Amendment Rights and your freedom to choose.

Silence = Submission, Servitude, and Slavery.

Say No to ICM!!

And Fuck .XXX!!

No Fear, Just Knowledge.....

Does Lawrence Walters and Gregory Piccionelli still support .XXX? What about Alex Helmy?

Those cats are heavy weights, and unless they did the same miraculous flip flop that the FSC did, I'd say we're up shit creek without a paddle.

What is Tom's official stance?
I believe Greg's stated position on .XXX did indeed change. He sat on a panel at the XBIZ summer show in 2007 as one of the "anti" voices, opposite Lawley and Robert Corn-Revere (ICM's attorney), but I recall him taking the other side (or perhaps a "neutral" position?) at Internext in Florida a year or two prior to that.

I don't know for certain what Larry's position on it is these days, but I'm assuming he's still for it, or at the very least a member of the "it can't hurt" camp.

Alec's stated position is that he's against .XXX -- I know a fair number of people harbor a lot of doubt as to whether he's really against it; I have nothing substantial or factual to add to the speculation related to his position, however, one way or the other.

Tom's official (and consistent since the beginning of the debate over .XXX) stance is against .XXX. Tom is also a board member of the FSC, so you will probably doubt the sincerity of that stance. ;-)

Connor is another who has made no bones about being strongly against .XXX from the very outset, but since he was a board member of the FSC for several years, you might not trust his opposition, either. (For Connor's sake, I wouldn't advise openly doubting him on this; he might drop from a spontaneous aneurysm in response, because his passion on this issue is unrivaled, as near as I can tell.)

DWB, while your general skepticism as to the FSC is understandable, in a .XXX context I think you can trust the sincerity of their opposition. I may not agree with your characterization of them as being "in bed with Manwin," but I understand that depiction on your part, based on the 'monetization' aspect of the APAP digital fingerprint filtering program. On this particular issue, though, I think your mistrust of the FSC is misplaced.

The FSC has put quite a lot of time and effort into opposing .XXX, and while I might not agree with every move they have made with respect to his subject, and I might not think that their approach to opposing .XXX has been ideal (but what adult industry entity's approach to anything has ever been "ideal," realistically?), I don't doubt for one second that their anti-.XXX position represents their board's true feelings toward the proposal.

In case you are wondering, I am not an FSC member (Pink Visual is as a company, though), nor am I an FSC employee. I do have a tendency to speak out in their defense, even when I'm not in perfect agreement with them on the issue in question, because I believe that to the extent that there is an organization out there trying to represent the interests of our industry across a broad range of issues (as opposed to having a singular focus related to one particular issue or type of service), the FSC is that organization.

Did anybody think to send an email to all churches within say 25 miles of the meeting?

I would think that might get a few protesters out

I hope those ICANN members who are going to vote on .xxx get to see the demonstration (even it's via someone's saved cell video and somehow shown later)!

I'm not sure that they wouldn't create more problems than they would solve.

We need to have a clear and concise message for ICANN and they might try to interfere with that message since they want to see us all, ultimately, out of business.

Bump.

If you can't make it, you can still make a difference:
- Tweet: @ICANN As a member of the adult industry I am opposed to the .xxx tld proposal. #icann
- Spread the word, tell others who might be able to make it how important this is.
- Write your local newspaper. From the point of view of a business owner, an adult webmaster, a concerned parent, ... whatever, as long as the word that people are against the .xxx tld (for whatever reason) gets out there.
- Call churches, mosques,... and tell them The ICM Registry wants to create a .xxx domain.
- Call, email, tweet your senator, congressman/woman,....
- Most TV stations have a number, email address etc you can sue to submit news. Use it.

Spread the word.

Okay, I will ask my friends for public transport directions (I need to learn it anyway) but if that is too complicated sounding I will drop you a note.

Posted tonight at Domaining.com is this piece about .sx being in the mill -- See http://www.thedomains.com/2011/03/16...ult-extension/

I've emailed the below just now to Diane Duke and others.

Copy/paste is below------------------------------------------

.SX To Compete With .XXX As THE Adult Extension?
2011 March 16
by MHB
.Domainincite.com reported today that OpenRegistry.com won the contract to operate the back end services for the .SX registry, the cc-TLD newly assigned to Sint Maarten (the Dutch Side).

According to OpenRegistry.com, the plan for the extension may well be to compete with the the proposed .XXX extension in the adult space.

“We will be priced well below the cost of the proposed .XXX registry” I was told by the head of OpenRegistry.com.

As a ccTLD, the .SX extension will not be subject to ICANN regulation like .XXX will be.

Also while .XXX is still awaiting ICANN approval, OpenRegistry tells me that they plan to have the .SX registry up and running by as soon as July well ahead of .XXX, even if they get approved on Friday’s ICANN meeting.

I know one of the major objections of the Free Speech Collation against .XXX is that it would “grant a virtual monopoly in the domain space to ICM” the applicant for the .XXX extension.

So what do you think?

Can the .SX extension compete with .xxx if the price is substantially lower?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have arrived in San Francisco. I have prepared my statements for tomorrow mornings public comments on .XXX sTLD.

We are going to rock their world!

Keep up the tweets and emails. Tomorrow, it is most important that they see what we really think about .XXX. The ICANN Board will be making the decision on Friday and ICANN has said it can go either way......they don't know how the Board is going to vote.

Doesn't sound like a done deal to me so keep up the emails and tweets!!

It was interesting to see the reaction of the passing public. It was also nice to see industry professionals working together rather than against each other in such a public forum.
