Yep, it's true.

Is it wrong? Of course not. No one is forcing people to use Gmail. Google offers a service (webbased email) in exchange for the ability to show you personalized ads. If people use their service, they know what they are getting themselves into.

People who don't like that or are worried about other possible privacy issues (eg. the fact that even if you delete an email, Google still keeps it in their backups until the end of days) have the option to NOT use Gmail.
