If we had no taxes, we would have no money for teachers, police, fire, ie: unions. You're correct that they are separate issues, even topics, but at the end of the day they are not separate from each other.

Without taxes, we have no teachers, and without teachers and everything related to what those taxes allow for, we wouldn't have the knowledge, safety, life standards or ability to create the wealth we do. It's not like Countries without these factors, do well.

I hear what you all are saying. The hypocrisy is amazing. Are people crazy? After all drama teacher making $180K per year should be getting 90% of his pay for retirement after 36 years. It’s totally worth paying the $68 million every time we negotiate with the unions. Conservatives are all wrong after all the public sector, is what really creates jobs in this country. The public unions have every right to make sure that the officials they elect to office are at the same table to give unions the great deal they paid for. Let’s look at California, this state is making so much money that more and more millionaires leave the state every year. California taxes are so low that people can’t wait to leave. Unions make it so fair that that for the past 3 elections not one incumbent has lost.
Union leaders have it right, we should all become socialists. What is the matter with people wanting to become wealthy, what a stupid dream. If you are going to be stupid enough to have hopes and dreams to give your kids a better life. Then get your wallet out to pay more taxes for the asshole union leader that wants give 100% health care to fucking loser that teaches drama at $180k per year. And hell, fuck unions. Then we still have the admin union, the classified teacher union, police union, nurses union and god knows how many more that rig elections and bankrupt each state. And fuck bank bail outs. His main point was that republicans were insisting on the fact that a CONTRACT was in place and should be enforced and respected.

I always love watching the argument about how corporate taxes should be lowered, because they're the job creators. Only problem is, over the last several decades, the majority of larger corporations within the US have proven without a shadow of a doubt, they will not reinvest that money into the US. They'll invest it oversees, where the profit margins are much higher.

Then they actively go after teachers. How pathetic. If anything, teachers are one of the most crucial resources to a countries' survival, especially in this day and age. Are they just trying to dumb down the populous more than it already has been, or what?

workers need bargaining rights, but there is also a problem of union corruption like any other major organization.

so it becomes a complicated issue that can't be solved simply by siding with unions.

corruption is all invasive and spreads like wildfire. i was in venezuela for months during 2005-2006 and at the time the people were largely liking what chavez was doing for workers rights, huge businesses which were very corrupt and severely fucking alot of their workers were nationalized etc.

the 2 situations are quite different...

the bonuses were for work already performed... you agree to pay programmer $10k and the programmer performs that work, you owe him $10k, the fact that the company is going out of business or that government had to bail them out is irrelevant... work was done, $$ is owed... no? (replace $10k with $10M and programmer with ceo )

I'm not very familiar with the teacher issue, but it is my understanding that they may get pay cuts in the future? or they will no longer have union representation? either way, that's in the future.. it's not like they are getting fucked on pay for the work that was already done....

Out of your class, only 1 of you works (You I assume?), runs a business, has a family, does something to help society grow, no construction workers? Lots of ways to contribute to society..

They didn't invest in those things... only one major type of market failed, all tied together, not computers, factories, building, ect.. the financial markets. And it was done through fraud, fraud you could not have known about, not the richest man to the poorest, all of us were screwed over.

I'm not going to argue with the power of the unions, but what public school teachers do you know that are making 180K per year. Most of them make an average of around 50K per year with another 25K going into benefits. Where is this 180K number coming from?

My wife's a teacher at the district office. I know what the average base pay of a teacher is and its not always $50k. There is some places that the base pay $75k. Depends on level of education and district. Teachers at lower income school districts get higher base pay then wealthier districts.

She first joined the union because in her application it appeared that she had too. Later we found out that it was false. During that time there was a push to get teachers to join, so the local union effort found a way to trick teachers into joining the union. After a enough signatures were collected. Bam! New teachers union was created.

Not to long ago we found a article with the public database for the the Orange county school district (Here). So we did a search and found the highest paid teacher in the district was this person, who was mentioned in the article (Mark Dressler). He is just a drama teacher for goodness sakes. What the fuck does he do to deserver $170K per year? And he will get a 2% bump for next year and if he applies to teach another class he will get another stipen ($26k).

Me and my wife have watched countless useless projects get funded and not even be used in the classroom. Hundreds of thousands of dollars just go to waste. Watch one particular teacher spend the last 8 years of her career getting "hurt" at the beginning of the year never come back until the last month before summer break and the repeat the process for 8 straight years. This made sure she got her pension. I think she reached the 35 year mark and gets 85 to 90 percent of her pay.

Unions did a great job to make loop holes as well. My wife works 8 to 10 hours every day and has certain benefits for it. Take the same teacher but decides to work part time and for most of her career and then the last 5 years or 3 years goes to full time status before she retires. Why? Because her pension is based on the last 3 or 5 years of her base pay before retirement. She gets the same pension as any teacher that worked full time for the same amount of years.

Let?s not stop there. Every election cycle there is always a push in the teachers union for specific candidate. My wife hates that her union uses her contributions, that she is obligated to pay every month, to elect a person that we don?t want elected.

Let?s go further. Here in California, the unions are strong. They out spent the campaign to remove unions from being able to contribute to election campaigns by 6 to 1(I believe, I could be wrong about the ratio). To say the least they destroyed the hope of having fair elections in California and change the electoral map for the better and really represent the people. Not one incumbent lost in the past 3 election cycles. California is without a shadow of a doubt votes Democratic local and Republican statewide. There is no question that this is a Democrat state with a Republican Governor bought and paid for with Union money.

Mexican activists and unions run this state. And these are your results. It is absolutely insane what the pie chart looks like for the states budget.

And now we need to pay more taxes for fucking unions. They scream and shout about being fair. Fuck you!!! Stop influenceing elections. And bargaining with the politicians you bought. How does a politician, sitting across the table from the guy who helped get him elected, say no to what he wants? He doesnt!!!! Case in point, Richard Trumka and Obama. God Damn socialist assholes. Who want nothing more to take your money and my money away through democracy.

My wife's a teacher at the district office. I know what the average base pay of a teacher is and its not always $50k. There is some places that the base pay $75k. Depends on level of education and district. Teachers at lower income school districts get higher base pay then wealthier districts.

She first joined the union because in her application it appeared that she had too. Later we found out that it was false. During that time there was a push to get teachers to join, so the local union effort found a way to trick teachers into joining the union. After a enough signatures were collected. Bam! New teachers union was created.

Not to long ago we found a article with the public database for the the Orange county school district (Here). So we did a search and found the highest paid teacher in the district was this person, who was mentioned in the article (Mark Dressler). He is just a drama teacher for goodness sakes. What the fuck does he do to deserver $170K per year? And he will get a 2% bump for next year and if he applies to teach another class he will get another stipen ($26k).

Me and my wife have watched countless useless projects get funded and not even be used in the classroom. Hundreds of thousands of dollars just go to waste. Watch one particular teacher spend the last 8 years of her career getting "hurt" at the beginning of the year never come back until the last month before summer break and the repeat the process for 8 straight years. This made sure she got her pension. I think she reached the 35 year mark and gets 85 to 90 percent of her pay.

Unions did a great job to make loop holes as well. My wife works 8 to 10 hours every day and has certain benefits for it. Take the same teacher but decides to work part time and for most of her career and then the last 5 years or 3 years goes to full time status before she retires. Why? Because her pension is based on the last 3 or 5 years of her base pay before retirement. She gets the same pension as any teacher that worked full time for the same amount of years.

Let’s not stop there. Every election cycle there is always a push in the teachers union for specific candidate. My wife hates that her union uses her contributions, that she is obligated to pay every month, to elect a person that we don’t want elected.

Let’s go further. Here in California, the unions are strong. They out spent the campaign to remove unions from being able to contribute to election campaigns by 6 to 1(I believe, I could be wrong about the ratio). To say the least they destroyed the hope of having fair elections in California and change the electoral map for the better and really represent the people. Not one incumbent lost in the past 3 election cycles. California is without a shadow of a doubt votes Democratic local and Republican statewide. There is no question that this is a Democrat state with a Republican Governor bought and paid for with Union money.

Again, I won't argue the the union is powerful, potentially corrupt and possibly hidering improvement of the school system.

That said, you found one guy making $170K (and I will agree a drama teacher should not be making $170K per year), but it doesn't change the fact that - it seems to me - only a very select few make this kind of big money. When you go here http://www.teachersalaryinfo.com/ave...er-salary.html you can see that most teachers make between 40-65K per year depending on the state (it looks like California ranks #1 with an average of close to $70K) so it isn't like there are a bunch of teachers sitting around doing nothing and making $150K+ per year.

Still, if what you said is correct that the teacher's pension is determined by their final 3-5 years of work so they can work part time and then work a few years at full time and get a full time pension is just wrong. Something else I agree with that I have seen other people saying is that maybe teachers need to start paying part of their pensions just like almost everyone in the private sector does.

Oh, and just for the record all politicians want to take your money and give it to other people. The democrats want to take it and give it to the unions and the republicans want to take it and give it to their wealthy wall street friends. Both groups can have big influences on elections.
