Why would the .xxx domains hurt the adult industry.

I have no idea.
Do you?

Adult filters or non-adult filters could prevent people from visiting .xxx web sites.

It is not mandatory for adult, so I have no idea why anyone is going to bother throwing money at this bullshit.

Also, assuming there is some sort of fear that porn sites will eventually require .xxx, who decides what is, and what isn't, "pornographic"?

Who will define what specifically is "porn" or "adult" and how likely will it be that that judgment is deamed GLOBALLY acceptable anyway?

A group of us should petition for a .adu extension just to compete with (and further dilute) this .xxx bullshit. We can state that "the industry" prefers .adu, and go from there.

Well let's see now, countires can make .XXX madnatory for porn sites. Once that's done countries can then force ISPs to either block .XXX alltogeter or make .XXX opt-in. Which I'm sure ISPs would gladly charge a fee. Now how many are going to call up their ISP and ask for the "porn access"? And of those that do how many are going to sign up to a porn paysite when they have already paid for "porn access" in their mind?
