Mini
Have one for general use. Also runs Parallels, for those 3 needed Windows programs not in OS X.
As soon as Lion comes out will get another to act as a server. Some people say they the only thing they run on their mini is iTunes or a Windows program to run their music. Also have a MacBook Pro, waiting for Lion and will get Mac Air. Due in June, and both computers are due for upgrades about that time. Once you go mac, you never go back. No more Zone Alarm notices, No more Java notices, No more any crap. I upgrade on my time. My Windows are still not on DST, how stupid. When will Windows get a Control Q to stop a program or a Force Quit. Don't tell me about Contrl ALT Delete, sometimes you're so jacked up, you can't get there. Best part of mini, like a laptop, I just unplug and take to my girlfriends, she has monitor, mouse and keyboard. I just bring the Mini and get down to business. |

Yeah, because im thinking just to start with I only need something simple to make my ipad apps. I have a 24 inch monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. So don't need a super mac for now. I figure writing code should be ok on a mini.

Having lost a laptop to a burglary, I like the fact I can take the Mini with me. I also take the MacBook which weighs twice the price. MacBook Pro does "close and go", where the Mini takes a couple of minutes to shut down. Hey, there's no place in the house to hide the computers. The burglars swept through the house in just a few minutes checking everything. Even the freezer of the frig. Figured that out cause the hidden ice cream was exposed. Just at dusk, neighbor that it was us. |

I bought one a little over a year ago, and just bought the newer one tonight. Its useful for a lot of things, doesnt take up much room at all and makes no noise.

I am constantly amazed how they could pack a fully fledged computer into such a neat little tidy box. When xcode is open and a project is going on, it does tend to get slightly sluggish if I need to open Safari to check some code or something. But on the whole, perfect for the job ![]()

We have mini's in the office which run as servers, local mail, our CRM and things like that. I have one at home I use as a media center in the bedroom. They also make a nice little mac for doing general purpose stuff.

Mine runs OS-X Server and does double duty as my iCal + CardDav server and also runs Plex Media Server ( http://www.plexapp.com/ )to manage all my digital content (tv shows, movies, music). It does direct HDMI out to my TV and also streams all that content to Macbooks, iPads and even PCs all over the house with an amazing interface. Torrents run 24/7 on it as well.
They like RAM so load it up with 8 GB and you'll be amazed at how well stuff runs on it just with a 2.66 C2D.

2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache 1066MHz frontside bus 2GB (two 1GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB And *know* that is just FINE for writing fucking code? :D And you'll want TextMate too. |

Never used a mac before so I don't know if the standard 2GB ram will do the job.
