ok, was hoping for some specifics *what i like about this* cuz i'm in the market for a smart phone, was holding out for the droid bionic but word today is it's going back to the design & dev dept.

on to the thunderbollt, seems the camera/video of the thunderbolt is pretty sweet, how are y'all liking that? what about that 4g lte? i've read it's settled down speed wise from when it was 1st launched, thoughts? besides, that's where the battery drain is right?

the other thing is that 4.3" screen size is sweet. how does it handle day to day? not too big?

it's got the snapdragon processor right? is it the 1 or 1.2? anybody know ram on it? what about the htc sense interface, is that ok?

holla!

The 8mp camera takes better photos than my little Nikon -- which REALLY surprised me. The front facing 1.3mp is kinda meh, but works for those self shots for social media.

The 4g is amazingly quick, though not available everywhere yet - and streams videos with almost no buffer time.

The display is simply gorgeous, clear and crisp, and surprisingly not annoying and squintworthy to watch videos on. The speakers are 'decent'.

1Ghz Snapdragon, 8GBemmc, 32GB MicroSD installed and 768RAM

I'm used to Droid, so Sense took me a while to get used to but it's really rather nice.

Day to day it's a comfortable phone to use. It feels "solid" not cheap, but also comfortable and easy to hang on to.

appreciated! what i am wondering right now is whether to keep my *dumb* phone and get a tablet, or get a big screen smartphone with a snappy processor and lots of rammstein and a real purdy screen and not get a tablet.

I heard Nokia has some pretty sick ass phone coming out soon that will, supposedly blow all the current smart phones away, but has a pretty steep price tag nearing $1,000. I'll see if i can find the model and post it in the morning

It really depends on what sort of functionality you want. I like having things at my fingertips in a hurry, so I will always have a smart phone. I'd really like a tablet to pair with it for travel. The phone hotspot eliminates the need for a contract on the tablet, tablet ultimately replaces the laptop for travel for me, plus the added niceties of a nice e-reader and time killer for home.

i thought the thunderbolt was due to have gingerbread with a 1.2 duel processor but i saw above it was said that its a "1Ghz Snapdragon, 8GBemmc, 32GB MicroSD installed and 768RAM".

If it is a duel processor thats why the battery sucks as was like when the 1Ghz chips came out it takes a little while for them to find a balance. Shame these guys don't see how important the battery life is to us all as i wouldnt want to release a product that would fall short in this area. I guess that shows how much money they make by drip feeding us version by version.

it's pretty amazing. best phone I've had so far... great screen. runs smooth and fast. battery would only be an issue if you were going fishing or something I think, or spend the day at the mall... get the larger battery or take a spare

We test all sorts of devices in the office and one of our CS guys has the Thunderbolt and it's nice, super fast.

I will forever be stuck with my iPhone.

There are some huge benefits of the thunderbolt and some caveats.

First, you actually end up with about 2.5GB internal memory rather than 8GB because it is eMMC which basically means that it's 4GB in actuality because of how the memory works. The 8GB claim is a marketing ploy. That said... 2.5GB available internal space is plenty unless you are an idiot. Especially since the OS supports placing apps on the SD card... but a caveat of that is that widgets for the app won't work right.

The mobile data feature currently uses alot of battery because it appears to be constantly looking for 4G towers. The 4G in the phone uses GSM rather than CDMA like 3G does. The good thing about it is that you can talk on the phone and use internet at the same time... which is a new thing for Verizon.

The phone comes with a shit ton of widgets provided by HTC. If you scroll through the extensive list you will find a "power control" type of widget that allows you to turn mobile data off and on. Texting still works fine when this is shut off. Turning off the mobile data GREATLY increases your battery life. My phone will last 2 days without being plugged in if I just turn it on occasionally to check facebook or news or whatever. If you are using skype for calls then you probably don't want to turn off data.

Another caveat of the phone is that Verizon has started including alot of "bloatware" apps that you can't uninstall. I did read an article yesterday that said that, after the trial, you can uninstall City ID (one of the bloatware apps).

The 4G is fast depending on availability. I live 25 miles north of Charlotte, NC and consistently get speed test results of 18-20Mbps Down and 8-10Mbps up.

Lots of customization information for the Thunderbolt here, including ways to get rid of any bloatware.

appreciatedd! my laptop is going pretty strong and i rly like the form-factor of the bigger smartphones or tablet phones some call them, i'm thinking a big smartphone.

i'll prolly wait a week or so until the samsung infuse is released, it's 4.5" with that super amoled + screen.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/s...r-amoled-plus/

the big thing i am concerned about is it's on the hspa+ network, technically not 4g, more like 3.5g, but from the comparison speedtests i've seen, now that the verizon lte network has settled into its typical speeds, hspa+ is only a tick slower.

I love the keyboard, that's one of the reasons for sticking with bb

which model and what didn't you like about it? I had an HTC G1 and it was a great phone, HTC generally makes good stuff.

Sorry. The Blackberry Storm never rocked.

It was pretty much a bomb for RIM, and they quickly released a followup soon after.

When you get that new phone, you'll see what I what I mean.

i have one and im on the verge of returning it. HTCs have horrible battery life and mine is slow as shit... i was reading on a forum to try and get it replaced as it might be faulty but damn, im unimpressed with it to be honest... wish i would have waited for the Bionic to come out in late Q2/2011 at least we know Motorola knows how to manage battery life better then HTC does and the Bionic will have a dual core snapdragon!

what's the benefit of dual core in a smart phone? for games? it's not like i'm going to render video eh- isn't a 1.2 single core snappy enough?

was going to buy the thunderbolt till verizons reps told me its not a world phone and if i travel outside of the US I have to request a "LOANER" phone form Verizon.

Only 2 shitty android phones are world phones from Verizon...Mortorola Droid 2 Pro (With the slide out key board) YUCK! and another android phone with a built in keyboard (Looks like a BB)

I have decided to go with another carrier then get a shitty loaner phone when I'm outta the country
