Looks Like Obama Is Doing His Job - Unemployment down

So, what do you republican racists have to say about this? You blamed Obama for rising unemployment, do you now praise him for the lower numbers or will just make up some more excuses for your failed political party?

According to http://www.usdebtclock.org/
the real amount of unemployed is 23,872,715
that's a lot of people
after 99 weeks, they lose their benefits and a lot of areas in the US there is just no work

That's because he thinks it's all fake... that we really have 23m people that 'can't find jobs' when they're counting house wives that don't work.

Even if Obama brings it down to 2%, it's going to be fake.

If I may voice my opinion on what a more important question should be. Do the republicans think it is a-ok for a family to starve to death, go homeless or any number of horrible things simply because they are unable to find a job.

this is not the F'ING middle ages here folks, but the right wing is trying to destroy all social programs at a time when more Americans need it than at any time before

dont argue the depression had more.. it didnt, the population was much smaller then and I am not talking about percentages, just real numbers

i second that. Real numbers will show it has grown, but it has nothing to do with Obama.

In a nutshell:

The elite will always want more money, that's how they remain elite.
Some of the elite will never care about who they hurt to keep their "elite status".

They don't care if you starve, die, evaporate; just as long as they get what they want.

to be honest, i dont give a shit either way. i have washed my hands of govt. the whole system is so corrupt there is really no such thing as a two party system in this country anymore...

i for one actually hope things get much worse.. i hope more people become homeless, jobless, and cant afford to eat.. we need a revolt in this country to right an out of control govt..

Right, I agree with that to some extent. But the elite by definition must remain an extremely small minority, its the people that need to fight to protect those safe guards that are in place but the country has become so divided it looks impossible for there to be any rational discourse to try and move the country back in right direction.

I understand with what you are saying, I agree the two party system in place is laughable at best and downright depressing at worst. It has ceased to function effective at all.

I am not hoping for things to get that bad because I dont think an attempt at revolution could ever succeed here. With the Patriot Act and the broadening of the definition of domestic terrorism anything that started would be crushed long before it could gain steam.

Now if they could just get something done!

My tone would change dramatically if both parties started working together, compromising and trying to keep what is in the best interest of the country, not party, at heart.

however I believe the days of the art of compromise and politicians actually doing their jobs has long since passed

The Republican tax cuts allowed the super rich to hire more servants. Hiring illegal Mexican servants is soooo last decade, these days you can afford real Americans to cut to your lawn and scrub your toilets.

People bashing the Tea Party should realize, that's something they dearly wanted.

Instead the liberal media is blaming them for holding up the budget because of planned parent hood

bingo and the more people that figure this out, the better off this country will be..

i dont have a problem with people amassing wealth as long as its not being amassed by stealing it from someone else, especially people that are too stupid to realize whats happening to them..

the govt has become a ring of dirty crooks and people are suffering as a result..

think about that

It isn't dancing - that number only counts people registered for unemployment. Once they are off they are no longer counted. Counting underemployed and unemployed, the number is very high. And I'm not a republican.

http://money.cnn.com/2011/04/28/news...aims/index.htm

The number of initial claims rose to to 429,000 in the week ended Apr. 23, up 25,000 from the week before

The 4-week moving average for ongoing claims fell by 22,750 to 3,697,750.

But the downward trend may not all be good news.

Quinlan said the figure could be skewed by the expiration of benefits for those Americans who have been jobless for long periods of time and are no longer eligible for unemployment insurance.

again
Americans who have been jobless for long periods of time and are no longer eligible for unemployment insurance.

Does anyone seriously believe one president/man no matter what party actually runs this country?

But the amount of people who have been unemployed for a long period of time and no longer eligible for unemployment are impossible to realistically determine, and you can play with these numbers constantly.

I think the truth lays somewhere between the amount of people currently receiving unemployment, adjusted by how many people applied for benefits in any given period.

As for Obama, well, this is a difficult time - one of the most difficult periods in our lifetime.

Firstly, as many others point out, the official unemployment numbers are very skewed and don't reflect reality. Actual unemployment is more around 20%.

With that said, the elephant in the room isn't the unemployment rate, but that most of the jobs pay far less than they used to...

For example I know many people who once earned around $13-$15 back in the late 1990s who are lucky to earn $10 now - so not only have their wages not kept up with inflation, but have actually decreased in real dollars too - a double whammy!

The middle class (one can debate what that means; imho, earning enough in 35-40 hours a week without overtime to pay mortgage, decent car, utilities, food, etc and still have a decent chunk leftover for savings / vacation) has been hulled out and continues to be decimated...

The U.S. economy is becoming a banana republic much like the countries most imports come from; very rich and everyone else barely surviving. Not an accident - it's by design (various trade agreements, in particular, Mexico and China) by the power-elite. Many, such as Ross Perot, were very vocal about the consequences long-term of unfair foreign trade ...

On an aside, before someone chimes in about Americans don't work as hard, or need to work harder, etc to compete ... read up on "externalized costs" ...

Try competing with a worker in China who works in harsh conditions with few labor protections (child labor, long hours, no breaks, no workers comp, etc) in a less safe factory that can ignore U.S. environmental rules. Good luck with that ...

In short, so called free trade isn't free, but comes at the expense of "externalized costs" and labor arbitrage.

Our standard of living drops with lots of unemployment and lower wages while theirs improves slightly - and only slightly, because the power-elite takes most off the top; constant pressure to keep living standards low to prevent companies from leaving to the next low cost place, which are numerous.

Ron
