Anybody here into Spearfishing?

The water was a little dirty, but we still had one of the best days spearfishing ever. 500lbs of Mero (Jew Fish), 200lbs of Pargo Rojo (Red Snapper), 100lbs of Robalo (Snook) plus some Corvina (Sea Bass) and Bujala (Amberjack).

my brother is into fly fishing - he buys gear for thousands of dollars and he must have caught 4 fishes ... five max

I used to spearfish almost daily when I lived in Cuba, right up onto the beach with a hot fire and cold beer.

LOL... I doubt it. It's not that easy. You have to be able to dive deep, hold your breath and be willing to shoot a fish that might take you for a ride if you don't stone kill it.

A 20lb snapper or amberjack is a lot more powerful than you are in the water and if you don't want to lose your gun, you better be able to stay down and eventually use your knife to cut the line.

Try and imagine what one of these 70lbs jew fish could do, let alone a 300lbs tuna.

I use to fly fish a lot... trout in north GA where I had a small farm and out west. Also in Texas for red fish in the back water.

I miss that and don't do much fly fishing here in Panama although I have all my gear here.

Here's the gun I use. It's 175cm long or about 5 1/2 feet.

I moved to Panama in 2006 and have permanent residency, but I still have a place in the States.

I'm here on a self-solvency visa. The rules have changed since then, but you can search for "self solvency visa panama" and get the updated info on the requirements.

Attorney fees will vary depending on who you use and what your particulars are.
