tech help monitor flickering.
Hi all,
this has been driving me crazy today. Just wanted to get some input. I have a two monitor setup on a machine running Windows 7. The right monitor is about 1.5 years old. The last few days it started flickering. I googled it and did what was suggested by adjusting the refresh rate, reseating the video card etc. The left monitor has no problem. I also tried plugging the monitor in on a different outlet and swapping the ports on the video card that the monitors are plugged into. I updated drivers on both the monitors and the video card. None of that seems to help. Do you think it is likely that my video card is on the fritz or is this monitor about to die? |

what kind of monitor? LCD?
Sometimes the tubes in the LCD monitors can flicker. Not sure if tht means it's going to go out soon or not.

Sounds like the frequency modulator, Have you tried taping magnets to it for a few hours?

do you have a separate computer you can test it on?
that way you can rule out if it's your video card in your computer then it has to be the monitor (or maybe a setting) im sure you tried a different cable? which type cable are you using? vga hdmi or dvi? (maybe try switching) |

I had the same problem with ATI cards. 2 monitor setup worked well for a long time then one of them started acting buggy.
First make sure that the refresh rate is at 60hz for each monitor, or set to whatever the manufacturer wants. Next, swap the monitors to make sure that the problem is not one of the monitors themselves. Try also swapping the data or rgb cables for new cables. Get the latest drivers for your card & monitor, make sure all of that is up to date. If the problem still continues, you may have no choice but to swap the graphcs card out for a new one.

Sadly I don't have another computer to try it out on, but I might end up taking it over to my brother's place this weekend and trying it there so I know for sure before I start buying new hardware. |

For a long time I was using a Sony Artisan occasionally it would "pop" and my eyes would be fucked up for a half hour.

Looks like I was able to solve my problem. I fully uninstalled all drivers for the video card and monitors, reinstalled them all and that seemed to fix it. I think I may have had the wrong driver for either my video card or the monitor that was flickering installed before.
