Running Windows on a Mac

We are slowly replacing all of our PC's with Macs (They're awesome). One of our PC's used for accounting has been dying a slow death and needed replacing. I didn't want to buy a PC but Quickbook files are formatted differently between PC's and Macs. So to remain compatible with our accountants, we need to use Windows. Solution? Mac + OSX + Parallels + Windows 7.

It is EXCELLENT!

Not only can you run both operating systems at the same time, but you can run Windows "within" the Mac framework if you want, or run Windows within the "Mac" framework as well. I can't believe how easy it was to setup, and how fast it is to use.

Windows sees all of the Mac hardware, Ehternet and network drives, and copying files back and fourth between both OS's is as easy as drag-and-drop. You can even tell Windows how much Ram to allocate for itself. Just incredible.

Anyway if you're still unsure about going Mac and you want Windows "just in case", this is a great way to go.

I questioned it at first too, love the Mac.

However when it comes to Excel and Office products, Mac BLOWS

Or you could just buy a faster PC for 1/3 of the price and install Windows and if you need OSX you can just run it in Virtualbox.

Mark,

That's what I use, too. I have a trading platform I've used for the last 20 years and it is only windows based. Parallels works great... need to shut it down before a reboot is all.

Use Parallels, its VERY good. In coherence mode, you can run apps seamlessly as if they were mac apps and not even see windows if you don't want to.

I got rid of my mac because I saw no reason in having it if I still had to run windows on it.

Thats the thing. Windows blows!! (Although Windows 7 is decent). OS/X kicks ass. Much, much, much nicer than Windows.

But not much of my software runs on OSX, so I still have to use Windows. Why have a Mac to run windows, I have a much more powerful machine for that.

If I didnt make my living on my computer I would probably love having a Mac. But mine got downgraded to the "neat toy" category because it never got used.

I thought a Mac had a mouse with one button, although now they may have added several new buttons to the mouse.

Try what? Do you know what ALL modern macs are the same clones of IBM PC as Dell, Asus, Acer, Lenovo and Sony? Don't you know that they all assembled on the same hardware in China?

The only difference between "Mac" and PC is BIOS which can be easily overwritten in couple of minutes. So every Mac can be turned into PC and almost every branded PC can be turned into Mac.

Ah I forgot, Macs are soooo overpriced pieces of shit. I mean they have a good hardware but for at least 2 times lower price. Dumb bastards are awesome buyers and their master Steve is a real GENIUS of marketing!
