Domain name help. Anyone knowledgeable in trademark/brands + local/global laws?
I own a 5 letter domain name. It's a latin word. A .Com. Have held the name since 2000 and use it for the consulting work I do.
The name has value on it's own. I've received a $50,000 offer on it in the past and passed. The true value however is the email address I have attached to the name, the meaning, and my future plans for the name/company/brand. I do not have a registered trademark. I have however done enough with it to warrant a common law trademark (for what it's worth). MY QUESTION: I was emailed by some company domain name registration company in China (researched the company, legit domain reg company) who said that they have a client who is ready to register the name as a brand and is pretty much picking up every other version of the name that is not .COM or .NET (I don't own the .NET) and they were checking on my affiliation with the company or whether I objected to the actions this company is taking. I responded with an email reaffirming my ownership and use of the .COM version of the domain name. Nothing more, nothing less. Is there anything I need to do, or need to be worried about? Should I go ahead and file the official trademark registration?
