:stop Xbox Players step inside!!

I'm going to be picking up an Xbox 360 Kinect system today and I want to know what is the "best" game I should get? (NOT KINECT GAMES)

BEFORE YOU ANSWER, lemme explain a bit....

I'm an "old school gamer" I grew up with Pong, Atari, Intellavison, Nintendo and then Super Nintendo, And now I have a Wii.

I never really liked much other systems because as the controllers got more and more filled with buttons and I just got PISSED having to use like 5 buttons just to preform 1 action lol.

So when it comes to gaming the MORE simple the controls the better chance I will play it.

What game/s should I look into that had GREAT gameplay and even greater simple control functions?

Everyone talks about COD but how are the controls for that one?

I'm looking for EASY to manage controls.

I just don't have the patience for most games anymore lol over the years it felt like I had to take a class before I could do simple actions

I was like you when I first began to play. I refused to play PC games because I didn't like having to use a keyboard and mouse. Once I got the basics down to using the xbox controller it quickly becomes second nature.

I still don't play games that require a sequence of buttons to perform one action.

Give the controller a chance. It's really laid out well and easy to use.

Whats important to recommending some games is knowing what genre interests you.

FPS, RPG, driving, flying, puzzle and so on.

I love driving games, and I guess first person shooters.

some of my fav Wii games are the house of the dead series and various racing games, BUT with the Wii I can use the Wheel and it really feels like driving, dunno if I'd really get into a driving game with a normal controller lol.

other then those two types I'm deff open to others the main thing though is NO multi buttons to perform one action

Almost all dual thumbstick games seem hard at first, but if you stick with it for a half hour, it becomes second nature for each game you play.

I'm playing 3 different PS3 games in the last month, and as I switch between them there's no problems at all -- and the controls are pretty complex. I guess I'm saying don't get scared off from what could be some great game experiences because the control scheme seems daunting. Give it a chance and you'll find it gets easier as you go. I promise.

You gotta play Dead Space 1 & 2, and I'll second the recommendation for Just Cause 2. That game is loads of fun. Red Dead is boring as fuck to me.

As far as Xbox exclusives, I can't really recommend many because there's Gears of War....and Gears of War.

Right now you can pick up Forza 3 the Ultimate Edition for $29 max

It contains the game and all DLC made available after its release. Unreal value and a super
fun game. I have a full driving rig I made especially for driving games and its a blast BUT you can still have fun driving with the controller. It has a great online community as well.
This fall Forza 4 will be released and it will have the Kinect integrated with features like head tracking and examining your cars. Forza is a great series and my top recommendation.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is not as realistic as Forza but loads of fun for what it is and can be played with a hand controller. It's selling for under $30 and you can get months of play out of it as well.

The DIRT series is great and can be played with a controller no problem.

There are other racing games but those three are my favorites.

In a FPS you can't go wrong any of the Call of Duty or Modern Warfare games with Black Ops being the most current. The single player is short but fun. The multiplayer online is a blast and you can play that for months as well.

HALO is fun as well. Its sci-fi as opposed to the army style COD games.

Portal 2 is a problem solving game that is done really well and fun to play. It's best to get the game " Orange Box " which contains Portal 1 so you understand the story.

Red Dead Redemption is an open world western themed game that is really fun to play as well.

All those games are very easy to control and require very little button mashing.

The fighting games and the skateboard games are the ones that require button sequences.

There is a three way war going for the best game on XBOX and any person can go either way.

Halo (best movement and value) based on future military battles.
COD (current version Black Ops) but a new one will come out any day and want you to pay for for anew copy. Current time war game. Most popular
Battle Field (best graphics and more complex) Current time war game. up and coming

Me I'm a die Halo fan, the movement is most important for me.

sports: Madden, NHL 2k11 are both very good.

Advice from me, the kinnect are rubbish, yes simple to control but the games are way to boring. Kinnect is mainly for family fun. I couldn't play a kinnect game by myself for more than 5 mins.

Just go get Black Ops like everyone else

I think you might have me confused with someone else, a few months back I was here running a sale on my content.

I was having a tough time because I had LOADS of "pending" sales orders but nothing finalized, so I posted a sale thread.

The odd thing was that thread got WAY out of control, mainly because people love to think they know more then they really do, and or they just love to speculate OR create drama where there is none, people thought I was "loosing it" or "having a breakdown" and as I kept saying over and over... "I'm just trying to offer discounts, I'm fine"

People were telling me to "go here for work" "check out this place or that place" etc etc, and I kept saying over and over, I'm not really looking for work I'm JUST trying to run a sale

Anyway lol

I've had a fucked up "rule" for many years now, any time I pay $2k or more ahead on bills at one time I make a "Fuck It" purchase.

This time around it was a toss up between a 47 inch 3D HD TV, 3D Bluray player, extra glasses and a few 3D Blu ray movies OR an Xbox 360 kinect system with some games.

Since the XBox and access were about half the price of the TV setup I decided on the XBox and the overage is going back into savings.

Hi Loki,

Same here! I grew up with Pong, Intellivision and Atari too. I am the current owner of an Xbox 360.

By far the best game that I enjoy playing several times a week is Grand Theft Auto IV. Every button on the control does SOMETHING, but the game helps get you started by showing you what to do, and what to click or push and then after a few minutes, everything feels pretty natural.

Of course it's light years beyond Intellivision so you can't compare them, but what is nice is that the environment feels real. What you expect to happen, happens, and the interaction with the environment is just as much fun as the gameplay itself. I often find myself just exploring the world instead of playing the game.

If Photorealistic 3D immersive gaming isn't your thing, don't worry. Make sure you get your Xbox360 setup to be online, and you can download all kinds of things including 80's classics like Space Invaders, Asteroids, etc. Whenever I'm in the mood for nostalgia / retro or recapturing a little youth, I hit these games.

The Xbox360 is an amazing gaming system. You will love it.

That's one of the things I LOVE about our Wii, the entire download section with all the old system games!

I have most of the Turbo Graphix stuff and even a few neo geo, my oldest looks at the games and thinks they are the worst things in the world lol.

Every old school gamer thinks the new games are too complicated or too hard to control at first, but the truth is they are light years easier than any old school game.

Trust me, go in with an open mind and give yourself time to adjust to the newer style of games and you'll never look back.

Sorry then, my bad I misunderstood that post.

Anyway, I really enjoy playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and yes you need to push a lot of buttons at once especially when you're in the battle and need to switch between weapons, but it's still a catchy game...

If you're looking in something like Mario games on Nintendo you may check out Lego games, like Lego Star Wars or something, one button for jumping around and one to shoot or use light saber..

My best advice would be to check out some gameplay videos at youtube before purchase anything, that's what I do

If you subscribe to Xbox live, they have an entire Classic Arcade section you can download. It's a virtual arcade with Intellivision, Konami and even Atari 2600 gems. Check it out! you can trial all the classics but would need to buy the games and put them in your own virtual arcade afterwards. Think I have Dig Dug, Asteroids, Pitfall, Adventure, Combat and plenty of others.

No worries, That thread confused MANY people lol, I had people contacting me offline like I was on suicide watch lol.

I LOVE the lego games, I have Batman and the Star wars trilogy for the Wii, I was thinking about getting Batman for Xbox but have not made up my mind since I already own one version of the thing lol

It looks like I'm going with Red Dead Redemption and Forza 3, my sister in law is going to loan me her Mortal Kombat and COD to check out and I'll go from there.

as far as I know the bundle I'm picking up comes with a free 1 month gold card, if I like it I'll snag the 1-year card I guess.

now, that live thing is like the Wii shop? I need to buy cards or points to buy stuff? or do I get it free with the live membership?

Also remember when someone in the neighborhood got the first electric windows in his car. He would let us all check it out and it seemed like space age stuff.

There's is lots of free stuff on LIVE and of course you don't have to pay to play games. Get demos for free. What you do have to pay for is add on content like map packs or cars and tracks for the racing games. For those you have to buy MS points which you then use to purchase the DLC. It also has netflix and some other features.

GOLD LIVE cards come in 1, 3 and 12 month and if you search around and be patient you can usually find a great deal on the 12 card. $59 on sale for $39 or so.

You didn't say if you were getting the 4GB or the 250 GB HD bundle

One thing to consider is you can actually download and save the games to your HD off your disc. You still have to have the game disc in the console to play that game but it doesn't spin all the time like it does when you just play from the disc. This cuts the amount of sound you have to listen to significantly and in the case of my ELITE speeds up the load time.

You can also save and view pictures and movies. All those demos, game saves and DLC quickly add up so it doesn't take long to use up your HD. I strongly recommend getting the 250 HD bundle. If you get the 4GB bundle you can always add a 250 GB HD to it later but you might as well do it now and have it internal.

I don't know if the deal is still on but Walmart recently had the 4GB bundle for $299 and you get a $100 gift card and Amazon had the same.

I'm going to warn you right now that if you lose your horse in Red Dead Redemption you're going to have
to push a button to whistle and make him come back to you

JUSTINSANE: I got the 4gb system and a few 16 gig thumb drives, I don't see me downloading lots and lots of stuff so that should work for me.

Well, here's an update lol

Out of the box I got everything set up, turned it on, and almost an HOUR LATER I can now finally play a game.

I have dubbed this "The menu console" first impression, it's cool but I DON'T LIKE IT lol.

I feel like a friggan primate banging rocks together trying to produce fire.

The kinect is COOL, I can navigate the ENDLESS menus just by waving my hand side to side like in a hacker movie lol.

Overall I'm sure this thing will grow on me, but after all the annoying setup AND having to get a fucking hotmail email account (YUK) I really don't want to play it tonight lol.

Forza 3, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 (like COD but WAY better and for adults), don't get COD unless you are a serious gamer that can compete with a bunch of 12 year olds that play all day, COD is fun but it's really fast paced and Battlefield is more laid back and strategic.

I think Forza 4 and Battlefield 3 come out in the 4th quarter this year.

that's joyride, got it

The reason I said no kinect games is that I already had those ones on hold at the stores, I was just looking for "Dad" games

By the way, Just loaded up Brunswick pro bowling, and now I LOVE the XBox lol, Think I had more fun trying to throw the ball though lol

Here's one tip.

The Kinect's default setting for the mic is on.

That means that if you are playing online, even with a headset, everyone in the lobby can hear what is going on in the room. You could be playing and your kids are having a conversation and it will be heard.

You can go through the menu and there is a place to mute the kinect.

The xbox 360 has enormous entertainment value.

You're going to have a lot of fun

The worst is jumping into a game only to hear three 12 year old french kids arguing and playing techno music as loud as possible.

If you have kids (or even if you don't) be sure to download Kinectamals for the Xbox 360 Kinnects thingie, or at least download the demo. Cute as hell, and the technology is impressive.

I played the Brunswick Pro Bowling for awhile, tired me the hell out lol, thankfully there's enough room in the game room / family room I was able to take a few steps and it was like I was actually bowling

Funny thing I had NO IDEA how to release the ball and I SWEAR I tried damn near everything, so one time I shouted "THROW THE BALL!!!" and the ball did release from my hand, I did that for the next few frames till my oldest could not contain the laughter anymore, and she said "Dad, just flick your wrist and DON'T shout at the TV"

I did that and yuppers, there goes the ball lol.

Right now the oldest is playing Kinectamals, TRIED to get the baby into it (15 months) but she only wants to go touch the TV and pet the kitties lol.

So the baby's gone to bed and the oldest begged to stay up "A liiiiiiitle longer" to play with her tiger cub some more, I'm calling it a night from the console and will check out Red Dead and the rest of what I bought 2morrow.

The only workout I want is for my thumbs.

I have the Playstation Move, and I hate playing it for more than 20 minutes -- and I'm a very fit person. Video games are for kicking back on the couch with a wireless controller.

Well It's official I should NOT try to play games made after the 90's IF they have tons of buttons on the controller lol

ALL The kinect games are a blast and gave me a damn good workout, the non kinect games, SUCK for me to try and move around.

I threw the fucking wireless three times I think it was (did not break so that's a plus lol)

Red Dead Redemption is a GREAT Game but fuck me if I can move around AND try to grab my gun without going in fucking circles.

After 4 hours I've concluded the kids and the wife will have more fun with this then I'm gonna have, too much stress for me, I'll stick to the Kinect stuff.

So much for teaching this old dog new tricks lol

You have to train yourself to have a light touch with the analog sticks. Like i said before, stick with it and it'll come to you.

I haven't read any of the replies in this thread but I just wanted to chime in and say that you aren't the only one that doesn't get these "new" games, Loki. I was quite the hardcore gamer around the age of 15-17 (what teenage male isnt at that time?) and that was when I was just starting to get ABSORBED into games like Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid for the PSX and before that of course things like Sega Genesis and whatnot.

Time went on and I kind of grew out of the whole gaming phase. I bought an Xbox 360 a while back because it's the ultimate all-in-one media center. Netflix, renting movies, social media, DVD player, it really has it all. I tried to get into new games and simply gave up. I don't know what it is but I find all new games to be incredibly difficult to get into. I just don't think I ever advanced over to the new generation learning curve and now I can't be bothered to even try.

The great thing about Xbox Live is the vast amount of free available game demos you can check out. That's a great way to kill time and to see if you'll get the hang of things. I recently received LA Noire in the mail from GameFly (its like $15 a month- the netflix of videogames) and so far I've found it to be pretty accessible while still maintaining a great level of entertainment.

Nonetheless, I find simple games on my Ipad and games like Peggle, Angry Birds, etc etc to be infinitely more fun than the latest and greatest releases for the 360. I'm sure if I just put in the effort to "learn" these new games I'd change my opinion quickly, but like I said, I can't be bothered. I want something I can just pick up, plug in and play.

Just my
