Take a picture of your credit card before you can pay us!

What really? WTF. This traffic broker claims that it's industry standard that I have to take a picture of my creditcard in my hand before I can pay them.

That violates VISA rules right there. At least according to my bank, doing that would make me liable for ALL losses.

Can someone tell me if that is the way traffic brokers usually do things?

seems an odd thing.

surly if they were worried they would just ask you to take a pic of a few bills.

This is standard BEFORE I can even make a deposit to buy traffic.. it's like they don't want people's business.

Yea Paypal requires that you do the same with the CC and that you upload additional information.

Fuck em

I'm glad it's not industry standard as they say, I've bought traffic with 3 other sources in the past and had no problems at all.

Nothing new there.

Many online companies ask for this, along with other docs, as a means of fraud control.

I remember doing it once about 13 years ago for web hosting. Haven't had to do it since.

I don't know much about the credit card rules, but I think that the law might apply to the three digit number on the back. I know that it's against policy to store those and one can be fined and/or lose their processing abilities. The standard number, as in front of the card, I'm not sure about.

Why don't you take a picture of a blank check so I can have your checking and routing number? Then I'll get to the bottom of this.

BTW, I know a Somlian prince who has a great deal on some , if you're interested.

Must be based in some pretty low tech countries *shrug* Anyhow not any companies I'd ever do business with.

If they can even afford to get a decent CC processor... fuck em. I'm sure there are other places that live in the 21st century and are willing to accept CC w.o. violating most EU credit card rules.

It has nothing to do with the actual processing of your credit card. It has to do with fraud prevention and P.O.S. verification. Or the elimination of your dispute/charge back claims.

if it's against VISA/MC rules all you have to do is report it. BestBuy a couple of years ago was demanding people hand over IDs when paying with a credit card which is against merchant rules. Someone complained and BestBuy had to stop

There are two types of merchant accounts.

One allows you to take "card not present" transactions as either online, mail in or phone sales while the other requires you to "swipe" a card in a card present environment.

Many hotels also require a scanned image of a credit card to be on hold if the card being used is being used by someone other than the cardholder. If you call most hotels and tell them you are paying for someone else incidentals, they will ask that you scan and send a copy of that card first.

This is not an uncommon practice but it is in this case. Are you paying with your own card?

If they don't have a Card Not Present account (aka Digital Transactions), then something sounds very fishy.

My own card.

Also I've made hundreds of business trips and never had to scan my card or some stupid shit.

He's right.. This isn't for any other reason but to protect the seller from fraud and charge backs. If you can provide the physical card along with ID and even a credit card authorization form then the seller is now protected. It is too easy to steal someone's CC number and sign up and pay for anything on the web. If you were slick enough to steal his whole wallet then you're better than most but chances are that isn't the case. Take the suggestion from most and block out all numbers except your last 4 and provide it to the merchant/seller.
