From what I know, and lines not working, Ghadaffi's forces attacked them. Rebels (terrorists) were smuggling weapons many months back and when NATO gave them order, they rolled out on street of Tripoli expecting support of citizens, what never happened, of course.

oil + gold = result of Libya conflict... even the UK gets a kick back they are saying that 4p will be cut off the price of fuel WHEN they take over... how many more reasons are needed to see this is not about the innocent lives lost but about the greed of the nations around the world that wanted a piece of the country!
