good compact camera for field use?

i'm shopping for a high quality point&shoot camera for those times when i dont want to take my canon slr out the house. suggestions?

I love my little Canon S95. Beautiful pictures and gorgeous HD video. I've owned a Canon G9 and a G12 and this one is smaller and the pics & vids look just as good.

if you're looking for something smaller than a DSLR, but still has a nice 21x optical zoom, I would check out the Nikon L120. Got mine in June for $300 (including tax) and it's a really great camera.

If you're looking at a smaller point and shoot, just about any of the Canon models should fit the bill.

I got an olympus stylus tough, actually had the cheapest version and broke it so upgraded to the tougher edition. water/shockproof pretty durable

I got a Sony DSC-HX9V

Zoom x16, Videos HD 1080 60i/p

Videos are superb.

Optical Stabilization is amazing in video and photo mode even at full zoom extent.

I came in here to say the same thing as Dean the Canon S95 has quickly became my FAVORITE small camera, hell I can mix the shots in my my Mark II and you'd never know.

love it, $369 at best buy right now
