FDA cracks down on over-the-counter sex pills

Walk into almost any convenience store or gas station and you'll find pills that promise better sex.

Some of these supplements that promise a libido boost have been pulled from shelves nationwide after their manufacturers ? some based in Florida ? were cited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The pills were laced with ingredients found in prescription drugs or their online ads made false claims, the FDA found.

Other sex pills found in Central and South Florida stores contain ingredients that could be harmful to people with heart disease or high blood pressure or who are prone to seizures, say two South Florida pharmacy professors who examined about half-dozen packages of pills at the request of the Sun Sentinel.

At issue are supplements that manufacturers say increase desire and improve sexual performance, usually for men. Carrying names like MasXtreme and Love Fuel, the pills usually come one or two in a package, selling for between $4 and $8. They're often found on racks in convenience stores, gas stations and some chain drugstores.

Yes, but the article says they're going after both, the article put emphasis on the prescription ingredients.

In my early 20's I did customer service for a dietary supplement company and we had to watch every word that came out of our mouths ... promote was an OK word, does was not an OK word.

The FDA is going after the low hanging fruit first. Don't think they won't go after the others as well. They've always had a hard-on for things they do not approve ... and things not developed by the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies.
