Cell phone input jacks

What kind of input jack does your cell phone have?

Please list the type of input jack along with the type of phone that you have. Trying to determine if there is a standard across most brands.

Thanks much.

Okay, so is there no way to theoretically hook up a keyboard, gaming controller, mouse, any kind of accessory like that? Or could this all be done through Bluetooth style technology?

I'm pretty sure you can do it with Bluetooth, depending on your phone.

Android and iPhone I'm pretty much positive.

Pretty much anything that is not Sony will have a 3.5mm jack since about 2 years ago. They finally all agreed on that connector as a standard. Sony is finally starting to see the light of not using proprietary connectors but not often enough.

Nokia N8 has a 3.5mm jack for analog stereo audio and composite video and HDMI for digital audio/video. Over Bluetooth common keyboards and mice may get connected, even my Logitech diNovo mini. It's also possible to connect USB mice, keyboards and memory sticks thanks to the USB OTG connector.

Bluetooth is the easy way to do HID.
Many Android phones can do USB an adapter cable. Also on Android the earphone and mic jack can be used as a serial jack, with either an old style serial mouse or an adapter cable.

You may be aware most modems were actually software that converted the sounds to and from audio and serial bytes. The modem card was just an adapter for the phone line since it was the software generating the audio signal.

The same software libraries can convert any byte stream to audio for phone's audio jack. I don't know if Apple had approved an app for that, but it's in use on Android where no corporate approval is required.

A clever person could also use the usb block device api for HID. That would work for any phone that plugs in and shows up as a USB drive, including Android. Apple probably wouldn't like that and wouldn't allow it, but on Android you could do it.

With a normal port like USB or serial, at the low level you read and write registers. It would be pretty simple to hack a serial driver to read and write usb block device blocks rather than port registers.

mini jack = output, most phones use this for audio output, probably like 95%

micro usb = input, I think most newer phones use this, and a bit older ones use mini usb.
